Tuscany and Venice Itinerary. . .
Our explorations across Tuscany and the Venetia Lagoon are designed to provide clients with memories that last a lifetime. Clients are based in a restored 13th-Century villa near Florence, with olive grove framed pool. In Venice, our boutique hotel is located an easy five minute walk from either the Rialto Bridge or St. Mark’s Square.
Day One: Arrival. Clients are personally met by Private Italy staff
at either the airport or train station in Florence. After arriving at
our villa, clients are free to relax, unpack and rest before dinner.
Day Two: Florence. After a private guided tour of the city
center, the Cathedral (Duomo) and lunch, we visit the David
of Michelangelo in the Accademia museum before returning to
the villa.
Day Three: We visit the hill towns of San Gimignano and
Monteriggione today. There is plenty of time to shop and enjoy
lunch in San Gimignano. We drive on to the tiny medieval hamlet
of Monteriggione, a rarely visited village south of Florence. We
return to the villa for dinner.
Day Four: We spend today in western Tuscany, visiting a private
villa and family estate and then driving on to Lucca where
clients enjoy lunch at the Piazza Amfiteatro before being given a
private, two and a half-hour, walking tour of the city center. We
remain overnight in Lucca at a lovely hotel located in the center
of the city. Clients are on their own for dinner in this beautiful
medieval town.
Day Five: After breakfast, we leave Lucca and visit the Certosa
of Pisa. A private guide will lead our exploration of this stunning
Renaissance complex. We drive on to Pisa where we briefly visit
the Campo di Miracoli, home to the Cathedral, Baptistery and
Leaning Tower. Lunch is served at a small restaurant along the
coast of the Mediterranean before we return to our villa. Dinner
is served at the villa this evening.
Day Six: Free Day at the villa. Clients have a free day, including a
lunch buffet and dinner, at the villa. Enjoy the pool, walk to the
nearby village, or explore the grounds of the estate.
Day Seven: We drive south into the Chianti region of Tuscany
for a tour of a private family villa and cantina. Following the
tour and tasting, we enjoy a lunch in a gorgeous restaurant on
the grounds of the estate before heading back to the villa for
dinner.
Day Eight: We drive to a nearby restaurant famous for its
bountiful menu. We will enjoy lunch at this fabulous restaurant,
returning to the villa mid afternoon. Dinner is served at the villa
this evening.
Day Nine: Hill towns above Florence. Clients enjoy a private
tour of the most studied Italian garden in the world near the
town of Settignano. After visiting the gardens and the state we
visit Fiesole, the Hilltop town first settled above the valley of
the Arno River. After lunch, we visit the Archaeological site in
Fiesole. We visit an olive oil estate, after which dinner is served
in a private Italian home. We return to the villa after dinner.
Day Ten: Ceramics. We visit the center of Tuscan ceramics in
Montelupo. After visits to several little-know workshops, we
return to the villa for dinner; an easy day in a beautiful town.
Day Eleven: Venice! We depart Florence early in the morning,
via First Class train, arriving in Venice around noon. After a
welcome reception and check-in at our hotel, we visit a family
owned fornace (glass furnace) on the island of Murano. Dinner
is on your own this evening.
Day Twelve: We explore the northern Venetian Lagoon; from
an ancient cathedral on the island of Torcello, we head on to
Burano for lunch and an easy afternoon exploring one of the
most colorful islands in all of Italy. Dinner is on your own this
evening.
Day Thirteen: This is an open day for clients to visit those sites
in Venice that they wish to see – museums, craft shops or simply
exploring on their own. We depart the city late afternoon and,
after arriving back at the villa, enjoy a simple Tuscan buffet
dinner.
Day Fourteen: This is the final day of the itinerary and is left
open for client choice. There may be those who wish to return
to Florence for a few hours shopping, and others who wish
to just relax at the villa; we will accommodate as many special
requests as possible.
Day Fifteen: Clients are taken to the Florence airport, or the
Florence train station, for their return trips to the United States
or for their onward travel.
